We had a fantastic lesson in Science where Y5/6 Falcons became the teacher and shared their knowledge on circuits and electricity with Y1 Nightingales. They shared their understanding of the different components, what makes a complete circuit and how to make a light bulb light up. Nightingales were fantastic and could share lots and create accurate circuits by the end of the lesson. Falcons also enjoyed hearing about Nightingales Science on animal classification. As Falcons covered this earlier in the year, it was great to hear the discussions between the children.
Owl Class welcomed Cat from the Creative Arts Theatre Company
for an Egyptian Workshop day. As the vast majority of the cost of a trip out is now spent on coach transport, we welcomed our visitor so that the children could gain lots of new learning and apply all of their Egyptian learning in a more cost effective way for parents! It was a fantastic day and so lovely to hear the positive comments from children and parents too as Owls loved sharing their learning with their families at home too, some sharing the Egyptian booklet that they took home many times! #learningtogether #lifeinallitsfullness
Some members of our Reception Robins brought in some chirpy visitors this week. π₯ π£ π₯ Robins loved learning about them and getting the chance to hold them. Year 1 Nightingales also came to see them applying their animals' learning, thinking about which animal classification group they belong to and how they might know. π₯ π¦πΈππ
An enormous Well Done to our Year 6 children who worked with enormous resilience over the last four days and were so calm and focussed throughout. You really were the best that you could be!
We hosted the amazing Pirates of the Carabina today for a superb Pirate Taxi show full of wow moments.
As a Somerset Mental Health Support Team school, we are delighted to share new social media pages.
This afternoon for our daily prayer, Year 5 and 6 selected from a range of suggestions. These were praying whilst: making a daisy chain (a daisy for each thought), sitting peacefully somewhere, lying down, being together and being alone. The children have found great benefit starting the afternoon in this calm and reflective way π
We welcomed Sean from Somerset Cricket Club who led fantastic cricket sessions with all children across the school from Reception up to Year 6. Great cricket skills were shown and lots of collaboration too! Cricket sessions will be running on Friday evenings at Cranmore Cricket Club if children would like to take part.
Falcons created their scaled maps of the Maya civilisation to understand why there were particular regions, the importance of trade and why some factions of the Maya were so different.
We have three superb peripatetic music teachers who offer weekly lessons at St Aldhelm's. This week, Mrs Brock joined us to entertain us with some amazing violin playing including pieces from Taylor Swift, Pirates of the Caribbean, James Bond and Harry Potter. We even had a spontaneous sing along to ABBA! Mrs Brock praised the children, firstly on their amazing worship singing but also their energy and fun. A joyous end to Friday worship.
Kingfishers some amazing recycled art to raise awareness of Plastic Pollution and these have been proudly displayed by the Art Bank in Shepton Mallet.
